Helping you find a

                              New Course

New Course services work in a little different way.  The name was chosen as the work mentor implies authority.  These services are provided from a position of neutrality. The goal is to be a guide that leads the client(s) to their own New Course.  Here we listen to each other, guide each other in the situation, and inspire a New Course

Our New Course services are organized and supervised by our Co-Director Dan Bierma.

Mediation

Our Divorce & Custody (Domestic Relations) mediators are available to guide you through a process that allows you to own the decisions you make as you seek to move forward.

While often court involvement is necessary to finalize an agreement we seek to empower the parties involved and not outside courts while you make agreements between yourselves to move forward.

It is not unusual for the courts to refer you to us; we provide a process to help you meet your court obligations.

Most of our mediation involves the process of coming to an agreement as a family goes through a divorce.   However, we assist in mediating;

  • Custody and Support of Children

  • Guardianship agreements

  • Family financial disagreements

  • Parenting conflicts

  • Family concerns

  • Alimony

  • Any conflict with a neighbor or friend that you want to continue to be a neighbor or friend

Mediation may not be for everyone. We will help you determine if your case is right for mediation as mediation may be;

  • More cost effective than the court system

  • A personal conviction that using the courts is not appropriate for you

  • A process allowing you to move forward, hopefully finding peace in a mutual resolution.

  • Mediation is cooperative, mutual, and fair.

  • It seeks to leave the past in the past and seeks a future path

Parent Coordination

Parent Coordination is fairly new to Michigan under a law passed in December of 2014.  A parent coordinator is often appointed by the court or attorneys for a specific term to help implement the parenting time orders of the court and to help resolve parenting disputes that fall within the scope of the parenting coordinator’s appointment.

All Parent Coordination is overseen and supervised by our licensed social worker. A parent coordinator will use much of the mediation process to guide you in the process of putting your children first as the parents seek a positive co-parenting relationship.

Family and Individual Therapy

We interact with our world in different ways. The way we interact with each other has an effect on the entire system that we engage. Sometimes we feel like we are not able to affect the world around us. Let us help you find your place in the system and guide you to seeking your own solutions.

We Are Mentors specializes in the family system with experience in the school systems and court systems. We are able to guide you as you recognize your past and seek solutions for your future.

You might consider Therapy for support as you go through a challenging process or situation. Others come because they are stuck and want to find a way to manage through conflicts in interpersonal relationships. Below are areas that We Are Mentors specializes:

  • Marital Concerns

  • Emotional Pain

  • Conflict

  • Court Involvement

  • Struggles with Children

  • Career Concerns

  • Helping you develop plans and on how to move forward.

Our Process is about empowering you.

The first thing we do in therapy is come along side you where you are, in your personal place, and help you to define your struggle to us.   We help you teach us all the sources of your pain/struggle/conflict or concern from a biological, psychological, social, and spiritual perspective.

We help by empowering you to realize available solutions and guide you to cope with your challenge, or seek a pathway to overcome obstacles.

There are the things that we can control, and the things we have no control over. Therapy helps you to recognize what you can control and helps you to find the best path forward for you.

Reunification planning

Reunification planning is the process of introducing a child to a parent that they may not know or have not been in contact with for a significant period of time.  This process is similar to mediation were the parents make the decision of how to move forward.  Unlike, mediation, the facilitator seeks the best interest of the child as a court order is followed.
